v3: what a tremendous blessing to be promised redemption! He must have exhibited great faith in order to receive this on his father's deathbed.
v6: talks about how the redemption in v3 comes about...only through Christ.
v13-30: Happiness. Would not exist without opposition. We need to know misery in order to know happiness. We should come to appreciate the difficulties in life as they provide a venue for us to be able to feel greater happiness and joy. Adam fell that men might be: placed into a situation of opposition. Men are that they might have joy: with that opposition we are able to feel joy. Through Christ we are able to feel joy after sinning. I wonder if I would ever truly love summers if it wasn't for the long, cold winters.

2 Ne 1
v1: Lehi speaks about the "Mercies" of the Lord mentioned again by Moroni in Moroni 10:4. One of the keys to knowing truths is contemplating, understanding, and appreciating the Lord's mercies (His blessings) to mankind. It generates an attitude of meekness and humility required for inspiration.
v2: Lehi either only chooses to mention the rebellions upon the water that he himself witnessed OR Nephi never told Lehi about al the other times (tied to a tree, beaten by a rod, etc) Laman and Lemual rebelled. I wonder if it is the latter. Nephi likely had charitible attributes and did not see it necessary to complain to his father or to "tattle".
v4: RESEARCH - in what year do historical records state that Jerusalem was destroyed?
v5-8: I wonder if similar circumstances will exist when we are asked to leave our riches (homes, property, etc.) behind (in Highland) and go to the promised land in Independence, MO?
v9: what a tremendous and simple promise! We, who are in this land, wil prosper if we but keep the commandments. Would we, as a nation, be in a financial crisis if we had just kept the commandments? Although I believe some of this has to do with the requirements for the second coming, I absolutely feel that we would have been preserved from this crisis had we been less prideful and greedy...or kept the commandments.
v13: I think about being groggy when someone wakes me up. My body is tired, relaxed, warm, and comfortable. The last thing I can think about is getting out of bed. Spiritually, these same feelings exist: tired spiritually - tired of trying to keep the commandments; relaxed - armor withdrawn, allowing the fiery darts to easily affect us, warm - a feeling of complacency and comfortable in sin. Laying in bed is a very easy thing to do; getting up and facing each day requires effort.
v14: Get out of bed and wake up; change your disposition
v20: When we are in the Lord's presence, He is able to open the windows of Heaven and bless us abundantly. Prospering refers to the Lord giving us His blessings: inspiration, direction, fruits of the Spirit, etc. If we are not in His presence we will not have these windows open unto us.
